Honeydew melons are available year round, and begin to peak this time of year - these Super Honeydew Melons are delicious, full of Vitamin C, and melons weighing in at about 5 pounds are considered to have the best flavor!

Honeydew Melons are members of the squash and cucumber family, (cucurbitaceae members) or gourd family. They resemble winter squash, and are classified as fruits.

Honeydew Melons are believed to have originated in Persia, and today are grown in California, Arizona and Texas - states that provide most of the melons consumed in the U.S. Imports from Central America, New Zealand and Chile are available in our markets during domestic seasonal gaps.

When honeydews are fully ripe, the skin will have a slightly waxy feeling. They will be firm with a small amount of softness at the stem. If the honeydew smells good, it should taste great!

Honeydew Melons should be refrigerated only if they become too ripe or have been cut. They should be stored at 40-45 degrees F, and should last in refrigeration for about three days. Honeydews are always better tasting when consumed at room temperature. Honeydew Melons do not ripen after harvesting, and grow on vines along the ground.
